ABOUT MISS GODDESS ORGANIZATION

Miss Goddess is a 501 (C) 3 organization created to fight against the degradation and dehumanization of West African features in the Americas and to commemorate the 507th year history of the African people in the Western hemisphere.  The first group of enslaved Africans was brought to the island of Hispaniola (Present day Haiti & Dominican Republic) by the Spanish in 1502.  Tragically the enslavement of Africans went on for almost four hundred years; Brazil became the last country to abolish slavery in 1888. ....

The organization’s main objective is to bring out the beauty of the West African physique which has been brutally suppressed for more than four hundred years due to slavery and racism. The beauty of the blacks has been systematically degraded since Africans were brought to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade.  The various dark complexions of the blacks have been regarded as being ugly and the unique tightly curly hair of the blacks has and still is being referred to as “bad hair”. The facial features of the blacks including lips, noses and cheekbones have also been deemed unattractive. After centuries of enduring such forms of degradation some of the blacks themselves subconsciously believe that they are not attractive. The degradation of black beauty has resulted in some blacks resenting themselves and many are aspiring to be like members of other races. Skin bleaching is prevalent in many African descended communities and the wearing of false long hair along with other methods of distorting traditional black African features.

The blacks are a tremendously beautiful people who have survived capture on the coast of Africa, the forced migration across the Atlantic ocean on slave ships and four hundred years of slave labor on plantations throughout the Americas. After centuries of pain and anguish, comes the Miss Goddess beauty organization bringing beauty and dignity to a people who have survived unimaginable circumstances. Miss Goddess is dedicated to Oshun, the West African Goddess of beauty.  When the world was young and in danger, it was Oshun who saved it from destruction; she turned herself into a peacock and flew to heaven to plead to the creator to save the Earth.  Amazed by Oshun’s act of courage, the creator sent down the rain that was badly needed due to a terrible drought. Because of this remarkable act, Oshun is regarded by many West Africans and blacks in the Diaspora as the most beautiful woman of all time. Oshun was brought to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade and has amazingly survived with the people of Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Haiti. The Miss Goddess Organization is committed to honoring the incredible beauty of Oshun and to celebrating the West African physical appearance.
